In June the implementation of 20 Lithuanian projects is being finalised. These projects are partially financed from the European Regional Development Fund. The situation of EU aid absorption and the progress of final works of the projects were discussed by Minister Algirdas Butkevičius with the Transport Investment Directorate and representatives of institutions implementing the projects.

In total, in Lithuania are 79 transport projects under implementation. In the period of 2004-2006 they were granted the support of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The total project value reaches LTL 742.6 million. From the LTL 506.7 million allocated for their implementation from the EU support 83 % have already been absorbed. The use of aid allocations should considerably increase this month after the institutions finalising the projects will submit the final disbursement applications.

Until now 54 projects supported by the ERDF have been implemented, and 25 projects are in the phase of final implementation. Particularly much attention was paid by Minister A. Butkevičius to the projects lagging behind the timetable. He urged the institutions to report on weekly basis and provide comprehensive and reasoned information on the projects in finalisation, technical inspections and the latest applications for EU aid payouts.  “We have to know and manage the situation. The lagging works will be controlled very strictly, so that all the allocated EU aid should be absorbed in time”, - said the Minister of Transport and Communications.
