Business environment for haulers to be facilitated

On 31 July, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania Rimantas Sinkevičius signed order regarding the authorization of permits to drive on the state roads for over-dimensioned and heavy goods vehicles.

Under the new regime, the permits to drive on the state roads for over-dimensioned and heavy goods vehicles (their combinations) with a maximum authorized mass not exceeding 48 tonnes will be given for month (hitherto, the permits were issued for each movement). The prerequisite, however, is that the dimensions of axle (axles) load, height, width and length shall not exceed the maximum authorized amounts when driving with freight or without it.

“The reason for this amendment is to reduce the administrative burden and, thereby, facilitate the business environment for haulers where each movement will not require a separate permit,” said Minister Rimantas Sinkevičius.

For the carriers convenience, from now the permits for month will be issued for over-dimensioned and heavy goods vehicles with six or more axles consisting of motor vehicle with paired rear wheels and trailer with paired wheels and a maximum permissible gross laden weight of 48 tonnes.

The amendment came into force on 1 August 2015.
