Cooperation in the field of air transport to bring closer Lithuania and Qatar

During the bilateral expert advice meeting held on 2 November at the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, the representatives of Lithuania and Qatar have agreed on draft provisions of bilateral air service agreement.

“Successful bilateral negotiations on cooperation in the field of air transport between Lithuania and Qatar are promising. This is the first important step toward our goal where the aircrafts of one of the world’s leading airlines land also in Lithuania’s airports” said Rimantas Sinkevičius, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.

The provisions of bilateral air service agreement reflect the provisions of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (the Chicago Convention) and establish rules on the activities of airlines for the operation of scheduled air services i.e. the issuing, recognition or cancellation of certificates and licensing, the application of the tariffs, ensure aviation security and flight safety.

Important EU Member States’ legislative articles relating to the activities of airlines for the operation of scheduled air services, which were prepared together with the European Commission, are also included in to the project.

In accordance with the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council on the negotiations and implementation of air services agreements between Member States and third countries, Lithuania shall inform the European Commission on the results of Lithuania-Qatar expert meeting.
