Discussions on the EU supported traffic safety improvement projects of 2007-2013 period

On May 28 the Commission on planning and selection of State projects headed by Mr. Alminas Mačiulis, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, was discussing the EU supported projects of 2007-2013 period intended for traffic safety improvement in road and railway transport and for cutting the negative environmental impact of transport.

 

At the meeting were discussed traffic safety and environmental safety measures’ implementation projects planned by Lithuanian Road Administration. By these plans it is intended to decrease the number of high rate accident sections and the proportions of “black spots”. Total preliminary value of the projects reaches LTL 150 million, of which LTL 112 million is expected to be received from EU support funding.  

 

JSC “Lithuanian Railways” is planning to implement the traffic safety programme, which is intended for the renewal of the system for liquidation of extreme and critical situations in railways. The Company intends to acquire modern technology and special equipment necessary for more rapid liquidation of traffic accidents’ subsequence and for training of staff for its operation. For this project LTL 30 million is expected to be allocated from EU support funding.
