Germany—that Took Over the EU Presidency—Has Introduced Lithuania to the Priorities in the Postal Sector

On 2 April, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania Valdemaras Šalauskas met a representative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (Germany) Dr. Johannes Offermann responsible for the postal sector and got acquainted with Germany’s priorities in the postal sector.

After introducing the position of Lithuania, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania Valdemaras Šalauskas stated that there are no restraints for new participants to enter the market of postal and courier services. Supervision of this market is undertaken by the Communications Regulatory Authority. In 2006, there were 77 enterprises in the market of postal and courier services. Although just yet universal services are only provided by Lietuvos paštas.

Discussions in relation to further liberalization of postal market in Lithuania are currently taking place.
