Lithuania and Uzbekistan will cooperate in stimulation of transit within the logistic system “Baltic Sea-Uzbekistan-China” involving the Klaipėda Seaport for cargo transportation to West European countries and developing the route of combined transport container train “Viking” to Central Asia.

On 19 June in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan, was held the third meeting of Lithuanian and Uzbek intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation. From Lithuanian side the meeting was chaired by Česlovas Šikšnelis, Vice-Minister of Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications, and from Uzbek side – by Akmal Kamalov, First Deputy Minister of Uzbek Ministry of Economic Relations, Investment and Trade.

At the meeting the following issues have been discussed: improvement of bilateral legal basis, cooperation in agriculture, tourism, transport, light industry, food processing, and accountancy between enterprises. Much attention was paid to the discussion on joint transport projects, from which should be noted: bilateral cooperation in stimulation of transit, combined transport container train “Viking”, and employment of Klaipėda Seaport in transportation of Uzbekistancargo.

At the meeting a bilateral intergovernmental agreement of Lithuania and Uzbekistan was signed on the economic cooperation. The agreement legalises the existing formats of cooperation and foresees concrete measures for the development of bilateral relations.
