Halfway Through Implementing the Twinning Project

On 3 November, the Ministry of Transport and Communications hosted the fourth meeting of the Monitoring Committee of Phare Twinning Project in Lithuania which discussed the output of the recent stage of the project implementation and reviewed the works completed to date.

Railway specialists from France, Finland and Lithuania discussed and approved a progress report on Phare TwinningProject “Harmonisation of National Legislation with the New EU Acquis in Railway Transport Sector”, Implementation of the “Second Railway Package” and Strengthening of Administrative Capacities of the Lithuanian Railway Transport Institutions” and issues relating to further implementation.

In the opinion of the Monitoring Committee members, thanks to efficient work of all the parties interested in the project implementation in Lithuania, the implementing of the EU Directives on the Second Railway Package is successful and will gather speed in future, especially with respect to railway safety and interoperability. According to Mrs. Liudmila Zumerienė, Chairwoman of the Monitoring Committee, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the first part of the plan that is jointly undertaken by railway specialists from France, Finland and Lithuania was truly successful. The Project has reached its halfway point.
