Implementation of EU funded transport projects was discussed

On 12 November 2007 in the Ministry of Transport and Communications was held a meeting during which was discussed the implementation of transport sector‘s projects financed form the EU funds.

Absorption of EU support resources allocated for transport projects was discussed during the meeting. There was also discussed the preparation for the absorption of EU financial aid of the financial period of 2007-2013.

In the current year (until 31 October) the amount of 1.29 billion Litas from the ISPA/Cohesion funding resources was disbursed for the implementation of transport projects. Also the sum of 445.8 million Litas from European Regional Development Fund was disbursed for the implementation of transport projects financed by this Fund. There remain to be finished 5 ISPA funded, 8 financed from Cohesion Fund and 35 ERDF funded transport projects.    

Participants of the meeting were also informed about the readiness for absorption of EU funding of the financial period of 2007-2013. Chairman of the meeting, Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, pointed out the necessity for timely and efficient absorption of all financial support allocated for transport sector, strictly corresponding to the defined timetables. As he said, it is a very important fact that the Ministry of Transport and Communications is planning to absorb in the current year the sum of 221 million Litas of EU resources from the new limit of the 2007-2013 financing period.
