2006 10 23

On 21-22 September, at the discussions during the international conference “European Maritime Policy – Opinion of the Baltic Sea Area about the EU Green Book” held in Kiel, Germany, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Arvydas Vaitkus expressed the Lithuania’s position towards the European Union maritime policy laid down in the EU Green Book.

According to Mr. Vaitkus, one of the main EU maritime policy formulation and implementation trends should be ensuring of widely accepted international conventions in the fields of marine environment protection, navigation and seafarers’ work. The EU Green Book should be harmonised with other EU strategies (for example, in the environment protection field).
