“Lithuania is a reliable partner of Turkey”, - says the Minister

Lithuanian official and businessmen’s delegation headed by Mr. Algirdas Butkevičius, Minister of Transport and Communications, participated on 15 November in the Business Forum held in Istanbul by Turkish Economic Relations Council.

As Mr. Butkevičius said, Lithuanian and Turkish transport sectors have much in common, for example: regional development perspectives, implementation of infrastructure projects, implementation of sustainable transport policy, national priorities for the development of motorways of the sea, solution of problems related to border-crossing, etc. Lithuaniana Minister pointed out that Lithuania is open for foreign investments; Lithuania is an open, reliable and ambitious partner.  

Mr. Alminas Mačiulis, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, acquainted Forum participants with the development of Lithuanian transport sector: with the major investment projects of modernisation and development of infrastructure of Lithuanian transport sector, and with the future opportunities. Mr. Mačiulis presented a joint Project of Lithuania-Belarus-Ukraine – the combined train “Viking”. He also spoke about Klaipėda Seaport, road transport and civil aviation sectors. As he said, the international importance of Lithuanian transport infrastructure for transit freight transportation is increasing also due to the favourable geographical situation of the country in the attitude to the Trans-European Transport Network corridors and because of the integration to the EU transport network.
