Maritime business representatives are invited to take part in the construction of Klaipėda deepwater port
“For the construction of the outer deepwater port in Lithuania we are looking for a competent, experienced and highly reputed investor able to provide a constant flow of cargo and act as a port operator”, said Rolandas Bražinskas, Adviser to the Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania.

Klaipėda outer deepwater port, which is the most northernmost ice-free port of the Baltic Sea, will be established at a strategically convenient place, giving a possibility to become the gateway of the East-West transport corridor to Russia, CIS countries and other European countries. This port will also link the hinterland international transport corridor IXB with maritime routes – the motorways of the Baltic Sea.

The importance of the future port is increasing together with the growing freight flows between Europe and the Far East. The aforesaid port situated on the eastern part of the European Union will be located at the politically effective place and will be able to handle transit cargo.

It is planned that the Lithuanian outer deepwater port will be capable to receive Baltmax type ships that need the depth of 18 m. Construction of the aforesaid port will enable to implement modern, convenient and competitive infrastructure. This will enable the handling of more considerable freight flows, thus generating a higher value added.
