The State’s interest consists in availability of European gage railway line reaching Kaunas. We plan to start the railway line construction works already in this summer. In the plan for the Government we will also provide concrete finance resources for each stage of the project and will indicate definite terms of work”, said Minister Masiulis. It is planned that the reconstruction of the railway line from Polish-Lithuanian State border to Marijampolė will be financed by the TEN-T resources, and for the further stage of construction to Kaunas finances could be allocated from the Cohesion Fund.
“Rail Baltica” Project Coordinator Pavel Telička emphasized that the official position of the European Commission regarding the implementation of the project remains the same as before – to implement the project consistently and decisively. He said that solutions of the Lithuanian Government regarding the implementation of the project are very necessary and important for securing the reception of EU funding.
