“We strive to become the centre of transport and logistics services in the Baltic Sea region. Having a favourable geographical position, high qualification specialists and a well-developed transport infrastructure, Lithuania can provide excellent conditions for transit of goods”, emphasized Minister Masiulis.
Lithuania is successfully cooperating with neighbouring countries in the implementation of joint projects and in acceleration of boarder-crossing and customs control procedures. As the Minister noted, a successful example of international intermodal transport is the combined transport train “Viking”, which in 2009 was acknowledged by the European Intermodal Association as “The Best Intermodal Transport Project”.

Minister Masiulis also noted that the Ministry of Transport and Communications makes all efforts for the initiation of pilot private-public partnership projects, such as the construction of deep-water Klaipėda Seaport, public logistics centres in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Šiauliai, European gauge railway line “Rail Baltica” and modernisation of the “Via Baltica” motorway.
