On East-West axis trains via Lithuania will move faster and safer

During the modernisation of intensive railway traffic sections Vilnius Klaipėda and Kaišiadorys-Kybartai, the telecommunication cables were replaced and telephone communication equipment renovated. Also 145 km electric supply lines were replaced, electric sub-stations were reconstructed and constructed, and the signalling system adjusted to the speed of trains 160 km per hour.

 

The mentioned works are performed by the implementation of project supported by the EU Cohesion Fund. The project has been indicated in the financial memorandum No.  2004/LT/16/P/PT/009 “Modernisation of telecommunications, electrical supply and signalling of transport corridors IXB and IXD”. The project received 80.7 million LTL of 2004-2006 EU Cohesion Fund aid.
