Poland Promises to Provide Financing for the Project Rail Baltica

After the meeting with Mr. Algirdas Butkevičius, Minister of Transport and Communication of Lithuania, which was held on 27 October, Mr. Jerzy Polaczek, Minister of Transport and Communication of Poland, promised that in 2007 his country will provide substantial financing for the project Rail Baltica.

During his visit in Poland, Mr. Algirdas Butkevičius, Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, urged Poland to co-operate more actively in implementing common road and railway transport development projects and to seek that the North-South axis project is included in the top priority list of projects within the European Union.

Minister Butkevičius laid particular emphasis on the significant role of the highway Via Baltica. After the conference Mr. Butkevičius attended a meeting with Mr. Jerzy Polaczek, Minister of Transport and Communications of Poland, who assured that in 2007 Poland will allocate large sums of money for the modernisation of the railway route from Warsaw to Lithuania .
