On 26 October 2007, in the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania was held a public discussion on the strategy of Project “East-West Transport Corridor”, where the efficient implementation of East-West transport corridor was analysed.

Project “East-West Transport Corridor” is intended for the development of transport corridor linking Lithuania , Sweden , Kaliningrad District and Denmark . This transport corridor should enable freight transportation from China and other Asian countries through the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea to Scandinavian and West European markets. The Project is supported by the European Commission.

In the discussion on the Project‘s Strategy the actions and measures for Strategy implementation were presented. A conclusion has been formulated that Lithuania is able to play a particularly active role in the development of the Project, including cooperation with neighbouring countries in the process of shaping the transport flows and implementing concrete projects, such as “Viking” and “Mercury”.

One of the future steps in contribution to the development of East-West Transport Corridor will be the final International East-West Transport Corridor‘s Conference held in Vilnius on 10-11 December 2007, where will participate representatives of associated business structures, partners involved in the Project, also representatives of neighbouring countries and from the European Commission.
