R. Masiulis: Lithuanian and American cooperation in the transport area is mutually beneficial

Mr. Rokas Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications, is on work trip to the United States of America (USA), where he discussed the situation of cyber security in strategical companies and relevant issues of military mobility in the region with the representatives and experts from the State Department and the National Security Council of the White House. He introduced plans and perspectives of development of Lithuanian transport and logistic sector to the US Department of Transportation.

“Lithuania and the USA are reliable allies and strategical partners. The countries are cooperating closely in the area of security and defence; however, we also see mutually beneficial opportunities for cooperation in the area of transport and logistics. This sector is growing rapidly in Lithuania and makes 12 percent of gross domestic product. We use seaport’s and railway capacities to participate actively in the market of carriage of goods. Our country is an equal part of the European-Asian transport corridor,” – said Mr. Rokas Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications.

The minister noted in the meeting with the representatives of the US Department of Transportation that due to its convenient geographical location, Lithuania may offer to potential investors access to three most important markets – the Baltic Region, the European Union and the Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and well-developed system of rail, sea, roads and air transport.

The minister discussed the issues of cyber security, safeguarding of military mobility in the region, as well as needs and requirements of the NATO partners for the infrastructure of railway, roads and port with the representatives of the State Department and the National Security Council of the White House.

“The project of strategical significance “Rail Baltica” will contribute to smooth movement of military cargoes in the entire region. Lithuania is ready to provide comprehensive support to the NATO soldiers and to ensure well-developed multimodal transport system and safe infrastructure,” – told Mr. R. Masiulis. He also expressed his joy in successful functioning of the NATO for 70 years and 15-year membership of Lithuania in this organization.

During this visit to the USA, Mr. R. Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications, is also going to meet with the representatives of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the US Department of Commerce, who are coordinating the National Spectrum Strategy approved by the US President last year. The minister is going to present the nearest Lithuanian plans with regard to implantation and expansion of 5G connection in the main domestic transport corridors.

The delegation is also going to visit the Seaport of Philadelphia, where they are going to introduce expansion of the State Seaport of Klaipeda and discuss possible investments of the USA.
