“It has been agreed that from now on the train route will be under the concern of railway companies of all interested countries. Next year legal, technical and economic aspects of the project should be estimated. For the launching of the line the EU funding could be expected”, said Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Eligijus Masiulis.

The success of the passenger railway route should depend on the travel duration and the amount of passengers. For attraction of more passengers the railway line could start from St. Petersburg and continue to Berlin. Also the problem of rolling-stock change should be solved.

By the end of 2013, Lithuania is planning to construct the European gauge railway line to Kaunas. The first construction works have started only this year, after many talks during all the previous years.
