The memory of Lithuanian pilots was honoured at Myslibórz (Poland)

On July 13 the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Liudmila Zumerienė participated in the memorial events dedicated for the honouring of the 75th aniversary of the flight of Lithuanian pilots S. Darius and S. Girėnas over the Atlantic Ocean.  The memorial event was held at the Polish town of Myslibórz.

 

During the memorial event at S. Darius and S. Girėnas Memorial, President Valdas Adamkus awarded Orders to Merits to Lithuania, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Liudmila Zumerienė awarded Medals of Darius and Girėnas to the initiators, supporters and upholders of commemoration of the Lithuanian heroes in Poland. At the central square of Myslibórz, which has been named named after Darius and Girėnas, a monument dedicated to the famous Lithuanian pilots was unveiled. 

 

President Valdas Adamkus and President Lech Kaczyński participated at the memorial events. They underlined the importance of the legendary Lithuanian pilots’ dead, which famed Lithuania and united Lithuanians scattered in all parts of the World, and brought together the two countries – Lithuania and Poland.
