The planned Southern bypass of Klaipėda will be a link with the international transport corridor

On May 20, at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, was discussed the planned Southern bypass of Klaipėda , which will serve as a link connecting Klaipėda State Seaport with the Transport Corridor IXB. It will be the main highway serving to the seaport as well as to the Klaipėda public logistics centre. Furthermore, it will enable to direct flows of heavy-weight transport from the Klaipėda city.

 

At the meeting arranged by Arvydas Vaitkus, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, participated representatives of Klaipėda State Seaport, Lithuanian Road Administration, Municipalities of Klaipėda and Klaipėda county and businessmen operating at the territory of the seaport. 

 

In the course of preparation for the construction of the new transport link, a feasibility study ordered by the municipality of Klaipėda is in the process of preparation at present. By the study it is intended to identify the needs of the town, the seaport and the public logistics centre, to gauge the envisaged transport flows and to propose most convenient variants for transport routes.

 

This transport link should essentially solve the problem of transport flows distribution in regard to Klaipėda State Seaport, a strategic national object, and Klaipėda public logistics centre, an economic projects of national importance.
