Legitimating of electronic voting will stimulate the use of information systems, it should provide better and more favourable conditions for citizens to participate in elections and referenda, as well as enable more strict prevention of bribing and corruption. It should be noted that the voting via Internet will not restrict the voting opportunities in the traditional way, it will meet all requirements and principles defined by legal acts.
According to preliminary estimation the implementation of voting via Internet may require the sum of approximately 7 million LTL.

Public polling results show quite a positive opinion of Lithuanian population: 78% of population support the legitimating of voting via Internet, and 41.4% of electors would like to use such an opportunity to vote.

Voting via Internet is successfully applied in Estonia – there already several times elections were held during which people had possibility to vote via Internet as well.
