European Ministers of Transport reached an agreement on the rights of passengers in bus and coach transport

On 17-18 December Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, participated at the Meeting of the Council of the European Union (Transport, Telecommunications and Energy). EU Ministers of Transport reached a political agreement on the rights of passengers in bus and coach transport.

With EU support 165 km gravel roads will be asphalted in Lithuania next year

With the support of European Regional Development Fund, 165 km gravel roads will be asphalted in Lithuania next year. The asphalting works will be going on in all regions. Contract agreements with 10 national road construction enterprises have been signed already.

During the one year was made a most significant contribution of transport sector, to the implementation of Economy stimulation plan, and by 25% more human lives were saved on roads due to the adequately chosen measures. This is a part of results reached by the first term of office of Eligijus Masiulis as Minister of Transport and Communications.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications will attract private capital for the management of airports and will expand the geography of flights

On 9 December was held a round table discussion, which was organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Lithuanian Free Market Institute. During the discussion the priorities of air transport development were presented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Vice-Minister Rimvydas Vaštakas informed about the Ministry’s plans regarding to the development of airports and the expansion of regular flights’ geography.

Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, says that the application of various incentives, operation efficiency and other measures increases the numbers of flights at Vilnius International Airport. Furthermore, by certain parameters the Airport achieves the leading positions among the Baltic countries. The Airport of the Lithuanian capital once again reviews the airport charges.

On East-West axis trains via Lithuania will move faster and safer

With the aim of ensuring a fast, safe and reliable traffic of trains by Lithuanian railways, in this year is being finalised the implementation of the project on modernisation of East-West railway lines in the direction of Klaipėda and Kaliningrad. Supported by the EU Cohesion Fund the railway lines belonging to the international transport corridors are equipped by modern telecommunication, electric supply and signalling systems.

More flights from Vilnius Airport

On 10 November Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, had a meeting with Bertolt Flick, President of “airBaltic”, who was visiting Vilnius. At the meeting the representative of “airBaltic” informed the Minister that from December 18 the airline company is planning to start 5 new direct flight destinations from Vilnius International Airport to Amsterdam, Berlin, Roma and Munich.

Illegal taxation of vehicles will be interrupted at Kybartai border-crossing

From 15 November vehicles going to Kaliningrad District via Kybartai will not be forced to parking at the border-crossing point and their illegal taxation will not be imposed.

Eligijus Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications, had a meeting with representatives of road maintenance institutions and instructed them to maintain the national roads properly and to take adequate care for road safety.

On 3 November the Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, together with Belgian Ambassador Serge Wauthier discussed the issues of cooperation in the field of transport, as well as the important international transportation projects of mutual interest.

Rail Baltica – an Integral Part of the Future Trans-European Transport Network

Rail Baltica section Warsaw-Kaunas-Riga-Tallinn-Helsinki is an integral part of the future Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T, which will contribute to the creation of the competitive European railway network. This provision was endorsed in a joint declaration, which was signed by Ministers of Transport of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland during the conference of ministers on the development of Rail Baltica.
