Lithuania, Belarus and China will cooperate in the development of the East-West transport corridor

Lithuania, Belarus and China will cooperate in the development of the initiative of the East-West transport corridor. This is provided by the joint declaration, which after the tripartite meeting was signed today by Eligijus Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, Ivan Shcherbo, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus, and Li Shenglin, Minister of Transport of the People’s Republic of China.

Today Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, and Polish Minister of Infrastructure, Cezary Grabarczyk, signed a bilateral intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in aviation and maritime search and rescue.

The First Asia-Europe Transport Ministers’ Meeting has started in Vilnius

Today, in Vilnius, has started the first ever in the world Asia-Europe Transport Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM), which is attended by delegations of 33 countries of both continents, as well as high-level officials of the European Commission, and senior officials of Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat.

A reconstructed border-control post has been opened at Ramoniškės

On September 3, at the border-crossing of Lithuania and Kaliningrad District, was officially opened a reconstructed border control post of Ramoniškės-Pogranichnyj. Eligijus Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, participated at the celebratory ceremony of the post opening.

Ministry strives to ensure possibility for drivers to be informed on the history of the used vehicles on sale

The Ministry of Transport and Communications proposes to provide on a website the data base of all vehicles registered in Lithuania The data base should reflect the condition of used vehicles and the history of their accidents and repair. Such information should be useful for people intending to buy a used car, and it would guarantee the protection of market from recomposed, however irreparable, vehicles.

Lower port charges for cruise ships at Klaipėda Seaport

Klaipėda State Seaport provides more favourable conditions for entering cruise ships – by the Government Order lower charges will be applied for such ships. It is expected that this will increase the competitive ability of Klaipėda Seaport among other seaports of the Baltic Sea and will promote attraction of maritime tourism to Lithuania.

New bicycle paths and reconstructed crossings will improve traffic safety

This summer intense reconstruction of Lithuanian roads is going on for the improvement of traffic safety. Dangerous crossings are reconstructed, new pedestrian and cycling paths are constructed. Until the end of September in different regions of Lithuania will be reconstructed the total amount of 13 crossings, constructed 14 sections of bicycle paths.

Transport sector – most significant input into the implementation of the Economy Stimulation Plan

During the first half of the year the total sum of 682.8 million LTL has been already invested into the projects of the State Investment Programme. 298.8 million LTL of this sum comprise the allocations of EU structural funding. This makes the largest proportion of investment in all sectors of Lithuanian economy that has been actually used for the implementation of Economy Stimulation Plan.
