Cargo handling amounts in Klaipėda State Seaport have grown by 13.2% this year

During the period of 7 months the freight handling amounts have increased by 13.2% at Klaipėda Seaport. The amounts of bulk cargo have increased almost by third, also grew the amounts of general cargo, particularly the cargo transported by ro-ro vessels, consisting mostly of consumer commodities.

Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, has approved the 2010-2012 inter-institutional programme for the improvement of Lithuania’s accessibility by air transport. The programme defines measures for increasing of direct destinations, flights and passenger flows. For the implementation of the programme efforts of the Ministry of Economy, national airports and other institutions are being consolidated.

Minister Eligijus Masiulis: “The vision of development of electro mobiles – by 2050 a half of the road vehicles fleet in Lithuania will consist of ecological transport means”

Joining the global trend for using less polluting and more ecological transport means Lithuania will provide favourable conditions for the development of electro mobiles, so that by 2050 half of road vehicles fleet will consist of ecological automobiles. Such a vision was presented by Minister Eligijus Masiulis heading the conference “Electro mobiles in Lithuania: problems and challenges”, which was initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

Due to the high temperatures the issuing of permits for heavy-weight vehicles on State roads is limited

According to the tax schedule approved by the order No. 3-150, Article 17 (Žin., 2006, Nr. 49-1783) of the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania on 30 June 2006, during the period of very hot weather (25 °C and more) due to which surfaces of roads can be damaged – the issuing of permits is restricted for heavy-weight vehicles on roads of State importance.

On the approval of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania on the amendments to Information society service law, the Ministry of Transport and Communications will be implementing the information society development policy in Lithuania. The Information Society Development Committee, which until now operated under the responsibility of the Government, from now on will belong to the sphere of regulation of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

Modernisation of runways has been completed in Vilnius Airport

The installation of the II category system of signalling lights for precision approach and landing at Vilnius International Airport (VIA) has been completed and the system has been acknowledged as suitable for use. On implementation of the procedures of this category, flight safety will be enhanced and the duration of aircraft idle time caused by to poor weather conditions will be reduced.

On May 12, at Lithuanian Exhibition and Convention Centre Litexpo (Laisvės Ave 5), the Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, welcomed participants of the international seminar Innovative transport solutions: from political agenda to implementation strategies. “Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) facilitate the variety of information: on meteorological conditions, congestions, traffic accidents, they direct drivers to the best routes, and enable most effective and cost-efficient travel planning. Their implementation is an important issue for the period of future 10 years. Our policy will be oriented to this important objective”, said Minister Masiulis.

Technical and investment solutions will facilitate more rapid implementation of “Rail Baltica”project

In line with the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Government has approved the plan of urgent actions necessary for the implementation of “Rail Baltica” project. For the successful implementation of the project the plan foresees technical and investment solutions, concrete terms of works to be done, required costs and finance resources.
