Restructuring of the Information Society policy formation and implementation will enable to reach the target that in 2013 the largest share of public services to people will be available in electronic way

The conference “Public electronic services for the public” held at the European Information Bureau of the Seimas dealt with the perspectives of e-Government in Lithuania and aspects of electronic public services delivery to people. “Last year Lithuania had become the leading country regarding the distribution. Lithuania can also boast the well-developed public internet access centres’ network, and the leading position regarding the mobile connections penetration”, said Vice-Minister Arūnas Štaras.

Main transport and transit issues have been discussed with the Prime Minister

Today Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius arranged a meeting of Transport and Transit Commission mostly regarding such topics as: Klaipėda State Seaport, East-West transport corridor development, Klaipėda Public Logistics Centre, improvement of road maintenance system.

Minister Masiulis: “We are starting the rearrangement of the whole Lithuanian road construction and maintenance system”

Today, Eligijus Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications, presented the guidelines of the starting reconstruction of Lithuanian road construction and maintenance system. “Essential reconstruction of the system is necessary. The aim of the reconstruction is simple – to ensure transparent use of State allocations and EU funds, as well as high work quality and personal responsibility”, said Minister Masiulis.

Passenger flows in Vilnius International Airport are growing

During the February 2010 Vilnius International Airport handled 84 242 passengers, which is by 11 % more than during the same period of the last year. During the second month of 2010 the proportions of flights have grown considerably (by 27%), also the amounts of goods carried through the airport increased by 29%.

Ministers’ Office has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Communications to reduce charges for cruise ships and tramp ships (ships without regular timetable) entering the Klaipėda Seaport. This should increase the competitive ability of the Seaport in regard of other ports of the Baltic Sea.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications suggests to reduce State taxes in railway and water transport sectors

Licences for transportation of passengers and goods by rail, registration of water transport means and other services of railway and inland waterways transport should become less costly already this year. Having assessed the changed factual costs of service delivery the Ministry of Transport and Communications proposed to the Ministry of Finance to reduce the proportions of State fees.

881.7 million Lt for the development and maintenance of Lithuanian road network

The sum of 881.7 million Lt from the Road maintenance and development programme is planned to be allocated for the development of Lithuanian road network and traffic safety measures’ implementation in this year. Such an estimate for financing of this programme submitted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications was approved by the Government. In 2010 the means for Lithuanian roads exceed by 106 million Lt the allocations of the last year, however they are almost twice as low as in 2008.

Minister Masiulis: “This summer we expect to launch construction works of “Rail Baltica” railway”

Eligijus Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications, had a meeting with Pavel Telička, EC “Rail Baltica” Project Coordinator. Minister Masiulis assured the Coordinator that it is planned to construct the European gauge railway line to Kaunas and that this summer already the works on railway line reconstruction will be launched.

Klaipėda Seaport will make efforts to attract ships by lower charges

For better competitiveness of Klaipėda State Seaport in regard with other ports of the Baltic Sea it is planned to provide more favourable conditions for cruise ships entering the port as well as for tramp ships (ships entering without regular timetable). The Ministry of Transport and Communications has already submitted such a proposal to the Government.
