Foreigners will be blacklisted for exceeding speed-limit

The Police will issue the "black" lists of motor vehicles registered abroad, which exceed the speed-limit in Lithuania on a continuous basis. This will enable better control of drivers of trespassing motor vehicles. Last year approximately one third of the cases related to exceeding of the permitted speed-limit were inflicted by motor vehicles registered abroad. It is difficult to control and penalize the owners of such motor vehicles.

Starting from 21 June 2011 the domain of the website of the Ministry of Transport is changed from www.transp.lt to www.sumin.lt. E-mail addresses of the staff are formed without Lithuanian specific letters according to the pattern name.surname@sumin.lt.

Comprehensive analysis of accidents on Lithuanian roads in the year 2010 shows that the amount of black spots makes 87 – i.e. three-times less than in the previous year. For further reduction of the dangerous spots on the roads, dangerous crossroads will be reconstructed, new bicycle paths will be constructed and preventive road safety measures will be implemented.
