Future Vilnius Airport Arrivals Terminal Architectural Concepts Presented to the Public
Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) has unveiled all architectural concepts that met the submission requirements for the future Vilnius Airport arrivals terminal. A total of 11 proposals qualified and will now be evaluated by a special international jury consisting of airport representatives and renowned architects.
Starting today, the submitted concepts are publicly available on the official competition website, and are also exhibited at the Lithuanian Architects' Union (LAS) premises.
The displayed proposals remain anonymous at this stage, with authorship not being disclosed.
The architectural competition aims to create a new, functional arrivals terminal that will be integrated with the newly opened departures terminal and the renovated central plaza. The objective is to complete the new arrivals terminal by the end of 2028.
“At this stage, we want the public to have the opportunity to explore the submitted ideas and see what the future holds for Vilnius Airport. This project is a continuation of the airport’s transformation, already symbolized by the recently launched departures terminal. By implementing these changes systematically, we are building a modern and efficient airport infrastructure for all passengers,” said Simonas Bartkus, CEO of Lithuanian Airports.
The international jury will evaluate the projects in the second half of April. The authors of the five best concepts will share a prize fund of €120,000.
Following the jury’s vote count and necessary document verifications, the winning architectural concept is expected to be announced in the second half of May.
The competition entries will be assessed based on qualitative criteria by a special evaluation committee, which includes:
- Laura Kairienė (Chief Architect of Vilnius City)
- Mariia Grachova (Architect, Director of Chapman & Taylor’s Brussels branch, UK)
- Tom Holtmann (Architect, Partner and Project Manager at Nordic Office of Architecture, Norway)
- Rolandas Palekas (Architect, Head of Paleko ARCH Studio)
- Representatives of Lithuanian Airports
The winner of the architectural competition will be invited to enter exclusive negotiations for the contract to develop the terminal and its surrounding areas.
