Combined development of environment friendly public transport in 5 major cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys

Combined development of environment friendly transport is planned in five major Lithuanian cities. Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys bus fleets have renewed with environmental friendly hybrid buses or the ones that use compressed natural gas. Ecological buses have replaced part of polluting diesel busses, manufactured between 1983 and 1997.

Municipalities have considered the demands of local people and were able to choose  the best way to use EU funding: building trolleybus lines, equipping the streets with separate lanes for public transport and special lanes for driving into the bus stops, fences, development of cycling infrastructure, bike sharing systems or cycling paths, holders, shelters and parking.
