Implementation of traffic safety and environmental measures (3 stages).

Stage I:
  • 14 pedestrian and cycling paths were built, total length – 18,9 km;
  • 13 dangerous crossroads were reconstructed.

Stage II:

  • Building and reconstruction of 10 pedestrian and cycling paths (total length 19,2 km);
  • Reconstruction of 15 dangerous crossroads (part of them were reconstructed to roundabouts and equipped with lightening).

Stage III:

  • Building 8,6 km of pedestrian and cycling paths, reconstruction of 19 crossroads, straightening road curves, building deceleration and acceleration lanes.

With the use of EU funds dangerous crossroads were reconstructed into enlightened roundabouts; safety islands, walls, pedestrian and cycling paths are built. All these measures improved traffic safety efficiently, reduced number of car accidents and victims as well as encouraged physical activities. Cycling and pedestrian paths is a safe way to use the most environment friendly vehicle – bicycle, and travel with the family to the forest, river or neighbouring town. Traffic safety is also improved by intense education of drivers and pedestrians, improved quality of driving schools, control of road users and installation of high-tech transport systems. Every year special attention is dedicated to the safety of most vulnerable users of roads – cyclists and children.

“Black spots” on the roads:
  • Reconstruction of streets and local roads will be carried out in all municipalities of Lithuania.
  • During 5 years the number of “black spots” in Lithuanian roads of state importance decreased by 60 percent.
