Modernisation and development of municipal transport infrastructure.

Improvement of transport infrastructure requires large investments and most often municipalities do not have enough funds. This is where EU assistance comes into the modernisation of municipal transport infrastructure and development. EU funds help to turn a city, town, village or settlement into a more beautiful and safer place and successfully implement planned road improvements, reconstruction and adaptation to new technical, economic and environmental requirements. Municipalities can decide how to use EU funding for roads and streets in 2007-2013. Representatives of municipal government know the condition of regional roads and streets, they know transport problems and the requirements of local people. When streets are reconstructed, they are coated with quality asphalt, pavements and cycling paths are built on major streets, streets with intensive traffic are equipped with lightening and planted.

Development and modernisation of municipal transport infrastructure:
  • About 200 municipal transport projects should be implemented in Lithuania during 2007-2013;
  • LTL 428,1 mln are allocated from European Regional Development Fund;
  • Reconstruction of streets and local roads will be carried out in all municipalities of Lithuania.
