EU funds were used to reconstruct local and regional roads that were in very bad condition: damaged, broken, narrow and rough. These roads had to be adapted to the growing traffic intensity and traffic safety had to be improved.

During reconstruction, road surface in damaged stretches was widened and strengthened, crossroads were reconstructed, new cycling and pedestrian paths were built or renovated, buss stations were constructed.

Traffic safety was improved by building safety fences, warning pillars, new road signs and marking the road surface.

The reconstruction of local and regional roads financed by EU in 2007-2013 was completed by 2011. The works were carried out according to Operational Programme for Economic Growth, priority “Improvement of technical parameters in road and railway infrastructure of state importance”.

Reconstruction of local and regional roads:
  • The road surface of the most damaged stretches was widened, strengthened and traffic safety measures were implemented;
  • Six road stretches were reconstructed - 34 km of road in total;
  • Works were carried out in Alytus, Klaipėda, Mariampolė and Vilnius counties.
