Presidency of the EU Council
EU Member States take turns holding the presidency of the Council for six months. During this six-month period, the presiding Member State chairs meetings of the Council at all levels and helps ensure the continuity of the EU’s work within the Council.
Lithuania held the Presidency of the EU Council from July to December 2013. Lithuania’s next presidency is scheduled for January–June 2027.
The presiding Member States cooperate in groups of three countries, known as trios of Member States.
The current trio consists of Poland, Denmark, and Cyprus (January 2025 – June 2026).
