Awards for the best green mobility solutions handed out at the Transport Innovation Forum
Lithuania's greenest solutions were evaluated at the Transport Innovation Forum in Vilnius: from water buses to air pollution-measuring parcel machines. Six nominations were presented for the “Green Mobility” competition awards established by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Lietuvos Geležinkeliai AB (LTG) granted for sustainable logistics solutions and initiatives – municipality of the year, start-up, ambassador, business company, partnership and institutional cooperation.
“These awards are taking place for the second year, and it illustrates that the green course is important for state institutions, businesses and municipalities, which create added value for us as a society with their decisions. It is gratifying that business has the ambition to increase the efficiency of the entire transport system, apply digital solutions and rapidly move towards a climate-neutral economy”, said Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communication during the awards ceremony.
“Environmentally friendly travel and cargo transportation are the goals that we help our customers achieve, thus, creating a greener future together.” We believe that the transportation sector has many opportunities and potential to implement ideas promoting environmentally friendly mobility – this is also proven by the large number of participants in the “Green Mobility” awards. By initiating these awards every year, we hope to encourage both business companies and residents to contribute to the green breakthrough in the transport sector”, said Egidijus Lazauskas, CEO of LTG, congratulating the award participants.
Klaipėda City Municipality was awarded for the promotion of water public transport and its development opportunities in Lithuania, which presented an electric catamaran boat-bus at the beginning of this month. The use of the Dane River for passenger transportation was implemented by the port city’s start-up Popa Boat. Regular runs of this boat are planned for the spring of next year.
In the green start-up category, the company Viezo was awarded for developing vibration energy harvesting technology that allows sensors and other elements of the Internet of Things to be powered without batteries. This technology can be used in industries such as railways, mining, manufacturing and other industries where abundant vibrations are present.
Vlada Musvydaitė-Vilčiauskė, the creator of the mobile app “walk15”, which is used not only in Lithuania, but also around the world, was chosen the winner in the ambassador category.
The parcel delivery company DPD Lietuva, which will install air pollution meters on electric vehicles, parcel machines and in institutions already this year, was evaluated in the business enterprise category. Meanwhile, the group of companies undertook to transform its vehicle fleet in such a way that it would not pollute the environment at all by 2040.
The award of the International Transport and Logistics Alliance (TTLA) is granted for partnership in creating an advanced, innovative and environmentally friendly development of the transport sector. TTLA significantly contributed to the constructive dialogue between truckers and LTG Cargo company, in the development and implementation of intermodal routes between the Lithuanian Kaunas Intermodal Terminal and the terminals of Duisburg (Germany) and Trieste (Italy).
The Create Lithuania (Kurk Lietuvai) project “Development of the Mobility Data Ecosystem” was recognised as the greenest institutional cooperation this year. The new function of Google Maps travel planning application operates in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda municipalities – passengers can track movement of vehicles in real time.
The “Green Mobility” awards, which have become a tradition, are presented annually at the largest transport and logistics sector event in the Baltic region – the Transport Innovation Forum. This year it is held in Vilnius on 20-21 October, at the Exhibition and Congress Centre Litexpo.
