LTG Infra prepares for Rail Baltica land acquisition in Panevėžys Railway Node and regional station areas
LTG Group company LTG Infra has signed contracts for land acquisition for public needs in the Panevėžys Railway Node and regional station areas, including engineering systems along the section between Kaunas and the Lithuanian–Latvian border.
The tenders were awarded to Tyrens Lietuva and a consortium operating under a joint venture agreement – Atamis (lead partner) and Projects House – which will carry out the land acquisition activities.
Tyrens Lietuva will execute work valued at approximately €5 million (including VAT), while Atamis and Projects House will undertake work valued at approximately €2.3 million (including VAT).
“Acquiring land for public needs is a necessary step for the Rail Baltica project to move forward. This infrastructure will open new opportunities for business in the regions, encourage investment, and create new jobs, while strengthening Lithuania’s security, economic ties, and connections with Europe,” says Roderikas Žiobakas, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications.
In 2024, the Lithuanian government approved the Panevėžys Railway Node development plan, which, after thorough analysis, successfully preserved all 23 residential houses in the Šilas housing community.
“We have moved from planning to implementation – we have selected reliable service providers who will carry out the activities necessary for the Rail Baltica project. Once the contracts take effect, the service providers will deliver services within 26 months,” says Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra.
Before approving each special plan, alternative solutions were prepared, public presentations were held, residents were informed about their property status, and individual questions were addressed.
Rail Baltica is a strategic project for both the LTG Group and the European Union and is the largest railway infrastructure project in the history of the Baltic States. Once completed, it will deliver an electrified European standard gauge railway line connecting Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia with Central and Western Europe, strengthening regional integration, civil and military mobility, and the overall resilience of the transport system.
