M. Skuodis to discuss implementation of strategic transport and military mobility projects in Poland

Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis is leaving to Poland on Thursday, where he will discuss the reconstruction of the international highway Via Baltica and the implementation of other strategic infrastructural projects, as well as issues of improving military mobility connections with Europe, with the Polish Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk.

During the meeting of the Ministers of Lithuania and Poland at the border of the countries, it is planned to discuss possible solutions for the development of the Aradnykai-Lazdijai road transport connection and the strategic connections of the seaports of the Baltic countries with Ukraine. In addition, both countries plan to seek greater European investments for military mobility in the region by reconstructing roads.

In Poland, Minister Skuodis will also take part in the opening event of the Suwalki–Budzisko section of the Via Baltica.

Via Baltica is strategically important for Lithuanian and international transport – it is one of the most intensively used transit segments in the country.

Currently, the reconstruction works of the Via Baltica section from 72.50 to 79 km have already started in Lithuania, and the reconstruction of another section (from 79 to 85 km) will also be started this year. It is planned that the entire 40 km section of this main road will be fully reconstructed before the end of 2024, which is two years earlier than planned.

After the reconstruction, this road will have to meet the international standards of infrastructure safety and traffic management, as well as the needs of military mobility.

Lithuania and Poland cooperate intensively in developing military mobility projects. During the meeting, the Ministers plan to discuss modernization plans for all strategic roads using funds from the Military Mobility Fund.
