Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis heading to South Korea to discuss closer transport links
Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis is leaving for a working visit to South Korea, where he will discuss closer cooperation between the countries in the fields of maritime transport, telecommunications and logistics innovations. The minister and the Lithuanian delegation he is heading will invite South Korean companies to invest in Lithuania, and to participate in the implementation of Klaipėda seaport development and alternative energy projects.
On 17-19 April in the South Korean capital of Seoul, the Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications is scheduled to meet with South Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Cho Seung-hwan, Vice Minister of Science and ICT Yun-Kyu Park, managers of the Korea International Freight Forwarders Association (KIFFA), Posco Inc., SK Telecom and other companies, and representatives of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
On 20-21 April, Minister Skuodis, joined by Port of Klaipėda Director General Algis Latakas and Lithuanian business representatives, will visit South Korea’s largest seaports in Busan and Incheon and will also meet with their CEOs. In order to strengthen the relations between the countries and the exchange of information about ports and shipping projects, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the ports of Klaipėda and Incheon.
During the visit, the minister will also meet with Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City Park Heong-joon, representatives of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the heads of the Incheon Free Economic Zone.
South Korea is the fourth largest economy in Asia and the tenth largest in the world, leading in many areas of industry and information and communications technology. Lithuanian companies are interested in increasing exports and establishing and strengthening cooperation with transport and telecommunications partners in this country.
