Starting Monday, crew members returning from trips will be required to self-isolate
Starting next week, crew members returning from abroad will have to self-isolate for 10 days from the date of arrival in Lithuania. The self-isolation period can be shortened if a coronavirus test is carried out at one’s own expense on the 7th day of self-isolation and the result is negative. This decision was taken by the Commander of National Emergency Operations to prevent the spread of dangerous coronavirus strains.
According to the decision of the State Commander of National Emergency Operations, self-isolation may also be shortened if the crew members have to make a trip or leave the Republic of Lithuania before the end of the self-isolation period.
The decision of the Commander of Operations also provides for facilitations. First, self-isolation can be shortened or terminated after the National Public Health Centre (NPHC) has been informed, but without waiting for its authorisation. Second, family members of carriers returning from trips will not be obliged to self-isolate.
These requirements apply to crew members (both foreigners and Lithuanian citizens) working in Lithuanian or international freight companies of any mode of transport.
The requirement to self-isolate does not apply to crew members transiting the territory of the Republic of Lithuania without stopping, except when necessary, as well as to aircraft crews when crew members do not leave the vehicle between voyages.
However, as until now, crew members arriving in Lithuania will be required to fill in the NPHC questionnaire before arriving in Lithuania.
It should also be noted that the directors (employers) of companies engaged in international commercial transport in Lithuania are obliged to properly instruct their employees about the need to fill in the NPHC questionnaire and the obligation to self-isolate. Employers are recommended to organise preventive testing of employees for coronavirus at their own expense.
It should be stressed that changes regarding self-isolation or the recent reinforcement of border checks with Poland will not affect the free movement of goods and cargoes and that crew members will not be stopped and checked at the border.
