The Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania attended a summit with the leaders of Central and Eastern European countries organised by China

Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications representing Lithuania at the remote 17+1 China–Central and Eastern Europe summit, highlighted the agenda for cooperation between the European Union and China, as well as bilateral cooperation in the field of logistics and transport.

"As a member of the European Union, we see great potential for the European Union to cooperate with China in implementing the EU–China strategic agenda," Skuodis stressed in his speech at the summit.

At the same time, according to him, Lithuania attaches great importance to the agenda of bilateral relations with China, mostly focusing on transport and logistics, which, in the case of Lithuania, traditionally generate more than 12 percent of the country's gross domestic product.

Lithuania is actively involved in the implementation of solutions for multimodal transport connecting the Western European and Scandinavian markets and China. Despite the impact of COVID–19 on the global economy, rail freight transport from China through Lithuania increased almost 5 times in 2020. This year, a similar flow of freight is planned to be maintained.

According to the Minister, innovative financial technology solutions, which can facilitate international logistics and trade, are also important in the development of bilateral cooperation.

"Mutual economic benefits, open and transparent markets, and equal conditions for business activities are the principles that would allow the economies of our countries and regions to achieve a faster recovery from COVID–19," the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania said.
