EU transport ministers to discuss in Luxembourg initiatives for promotion of investment in the development of transport infrastructure and sustainable mobility
On 2 June, the Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis will attend the European Union (EU) Transport, Telecommunications and Energy (TTE) Council in Luxembourg, where he will discuss with EU colleagues the transport investments of EU importance, development of sustainable, innovative and environmentally friendly transport, and further support to Ukraine.
At the TTE Council, the ministers of Baltic and Central European countries intend to call on Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport, asking European Commission to take action to allow more flexibility in the allocation and increase of EU funding for transport infrastructure projects in response to the war in Ukraine and growing raw materials and fuel prices.
EU transport ministers will discuss joint solutions to achieve the EU’s green course goals of switching to alternative fuels and renewable energy in the water and aviation sectors, and developing a network for electric vehicles charging and hydrogen refuelling. The EU is aiming to ensure climate-neutral activities by 2050, and at least 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
Ministers will also discuss the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), which includes the strategic projects Via Baltica and Rail Baltica. Presenting Lithuania’s position, Minister Skuodis will emphasise the goal of including a European high-speed rail line link with Klaipėda in the TEN-T.
