Focus on transport safety and resilience – Minister Taminskas begins official visit to Germany

Juras Taminskas, Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, is on a working visit to Germany, where he will participate in the Annual Summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig. The event, widely known as the “Davos of Transport”, will focus on investments in transport system safety, resilience and innovation.

According to Lukas Paškevičius, spokesperson for the Minister of Transport and Communications, the central aim of the visit is security: “The Minister is scheduled to meet the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba. Particular emphasis will be placed on the geopolitical context, with Ukrainian partners sharing their experience in safeguarding transport infrastructure and enhancing resilience,” Mr Paškevičius stated.

He added that the Minister will draw attention to the unlawful detention of trucks operating under valid ECMT permits by the Belarusian authorities. The visit will also include meetings with European transport sector representatives.

The ITF Summit, held annually in Leipzig in May, is the largest gathering of transport ministers and the premier global transport policy event, bringing together heads of international organisations, business leaders, parliamentarians, policymakers, representatives of business associations and leading researchers from around the world. The ITF currently comprises 69 member countries.

During its ITF Presidency in 2023, Lithuania, in cooperation with Canada, Sweden and Ukraine, established a dedicated ITF platform, CIG4U (Common Interest Group for Transport in Ukraine), to facilitate the restoration of Ukraine’s civil transport infrastructure. The Ukraine Transport Support Fund was also established earlier this year.
