Minister Skuodis to meet Spanish Transport Minister, attend EU Transport Ministers’ Council meeting
On Tuesday, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Marius Skuodis, leaves for a three-day visit to Spain, where he will meet with the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, to discuss bilateral relations and projects in the field of transport, and will attend the informal ministerial meeting on Transport. EU ministers are expected to adopt a joint declaration on the importance of transport links in boosting Europe’s social and territorial cohesion.
At a bilateral meeting in Madrid on Wednesday, Lithuanian and Spanish ministers will discuss direct air links between the two countries and the development of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which includes strategic projects Via Baltica and Rail Baltica, and Ukraine’s grain export route via the Baltic Sea ports.
On 21 and 22 September, a joint ministerial declaration on improving transport and military mobility links in Europe is to be adopted at the informal EU ministerial meeting in Barcelona. Lithuania’s proposal adds a European railway line to Klaipėda to the new TEN-T network, as well as new military mobility links between Lithuania and Poland.
Furthermore, ministers will discuss the countries’ efforts to improve transport infrastructure, social cohesion and sustainable mobility for all passengers. They will also focus on transport innovation, digitalisation, and ensuring efficient and environmentally friendly transport in rural and remote areas, including outermost regions.
The visit will also include meetings with the heads of the Spanish airline Iberia and representatives of Talgo, one of the country’s largest train manufacturers.
