Land appropriation procedures for the road section reconstruction between Kaunas and Prienai launched
With the view to accelerate the reconstruction of the Road No 130 Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus section between Kaunas and Prienai, the procedures of land appropriation for public interest for the purpose of widening this section are to be launched soon. These procedures will be overseen by Kelprojektas UAB, the winner of the public procurement announced by the Lithuanian Road Administration. The acquisition of the relevant private land plots is scheduled to be completed within 18 months, i. e. by mid-2023.
“Land acquisition for the reconstruction of Kaunas–Prienai road section is an important stage and a key factor in the successful implementation of further works. In order to commence the reconstruction works on time, technical work project for the said section is to be developed simultaneously with land acquisition procedures still underway, so that the road reconstruction works could be successfully launched in 2024 and this high-intensity traffic section would be safer and more convenient,” commented Julius Skačkauskas, Vice Minister of Transport and Communications.
It is planned to reconstruct the Road No 130 Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus section from the 11.6 km to 31.1 km (i. e. from Garliava multi-level junction to a roundabout near Prienai). The estimated area of private land plots to be acquired for the purpose of widening this section spans around 42 ha: 14.59 ha in Kaunas region and 27.33 ha in Prienai region.
In accordance with the tripartite agreement signed between the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Lithuanian Road Administration and Kelprojektas UAB, the latter will develop projects for land appropriation for public interest with regard to the above road section, will perform valuation of property procedures and will assist the implementation of this project.
The road reconstruction is to be implemented in two stages. The first one involves land appropriation for public interest by mid-2023 and road reconstruction design works in 2023–2024. The second one will be dedicated to contract works to be implemented in 2024–2026.
The reconstruction of the road Kaunas–Prienai will improve daily traffic conditions for 11.5 thousand drivers. Experts say that the reconstruction is to solve traffic safety, traffic organisation and road pavement quality issues.
