The focus of the meeting with the Polish Minister of Infrastructure: joint transport infrastructure projects and the train Vilnius–Warsaw
On Wednesday, at the meeting with Polish Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk in Vilnius, Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis discussed the topics relating to the review of the undergoing projects Via Baltica, Rail Baltica and Via Carpatia, border roads modernisation, preparation for the launch of the passenger train Vilnius–Warsaw next year, and the common position with regard to the Mobility package provisions.
“We discussed the progress of Via Carpatia, Rail Baltica and Via Baltica implementation and technical matters with regard to the launch of Vilnius–Warsaw passenger train with one transfer in Kaunas, which is planned to take place in the second part of 2022. Lithuania and Poland should go hand in hand in the context of these strategic projects so that they are implemented in due time,” Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis commented after the meeting.
Skuodis and Adamczyk once again reconfirmed their position on the matters of the Mobility Package. Both Ministers do not accept the provision on returning a truck every 8 weeks to the country of registration, which would result in reduced competitiveness of Eastern European carriers, increased air pollution on roads and higher expenses for regional companies. Lithuania and Poland believe that this undertaking is in conflict with the common market and the Green Deal and thus should be withdrawn. The Ministers discussed the option of appealing to the European Court of Justice this autumn with the request to apply interim measures.
The Ministers also discussed the implementation schedule of the international roadway Via Baltica project and clarified the list of Polish–Lithuanian border roads to be reconstructed, which was agreed upon by the specialists of both countries.
